New Invitation Design

It's the first night of Spring Break, and I decided to take some time to design something new.

To start with let me just say  "I LOVE buttons!"  I have jars and jars of beautifully colored buttons.  I guess if had to rank my top favorite scrappy products it would be:

1. buttons
2. twine
3. hand drawn stitches
4. ribbon
5. Kraft colored cardstock

As you can see buttons are at the top of that list.  In addition to real buttons I have 2 different sets of button stamps and dies   Well tonight I finally took some time to design a "Cute as a Button" baby shower invitation.  I finally got to use my stamps as well as other items from my top 5 list.  The best things about these is that they are very easy to customize and alter to fit nearly any color combination.

Here are a few photos of the neutral colored card:

I do have a girl card designed that I will be taking pictures of when the sun comes up.  I'm very excited how these turned out.

Cards for a Friend for the Little Hands Challenge Blog

The twins have a friend with a birthday on Saturday.  We aren't going to make it to the party, but the girls wanted to make cards to take to school tomorrow.  Since starting Crafting with Kids Challenge I've been on the look out for other kid crafting challenges.  Last month I discovered Little Hands Challenge blog.  Their theme this month is perfect fit for our birthday cards.

Their challenge is to make a card for a friend.  So here are the birthday cards the girls made.....
Bailey's Princess and Cupcake card

Addy's Rapunzel Cupcake card
We are very much into Princesses right now and I was working on some Cupcake invitations last night.  Put those two things together and you have their own birthday card creations.

So if you have some kids that like to craft check out Little Hands Challenge Blog and my own Crafting with Kids Challenge that I have going now.  Spring break will be a great time to spend some time crafting with your kids.

Crafting with Kids - The Spring Fever Flower Challenge

Well it's that time again.  This will be the 3rd Crafting with the Kids Challenge.  I thought it only fitting with Spring Break right around the corner that our theme this month be flowers.  To change it up a bit the material used can be anything.  Fabric, foam, silk, paper, icing.... let the kids decide.

We always spend part of Sunday at Nana's house.  Nana usually always has a craft set up for the girls to do.  They've made inchworms, butterflies, owl books, a 3 foot tall Grinch, crowns... and the list goes on.  This past week they were given a bag of foam flower pieces and had a ball assembling the flowers.  This one was easy enough for  the twins to do by themselves. Jilly need a little help holding it all together.  Here are some photos of the assembly.

Choices.. .Choices.... So many to choose.
You have to have bling!
These actually made great little gifts.  Both girls took one to their PreK teachers this week.
Now it is your turn.  Get your kids and create something crafty with flowers.  It can be using any medium for any occasion.  The listing will close on Sunday, March 18th.  Blog about it or post a photo in an online gallery and link up by then.  Please spread the word and have fun!  I will randomly choose a winner that will receive 7 free digis from our sponsor Bugaboo Digi Stamps!

Experimenting with Copics

Things have sure been busy here lately.... invitations orders have been nonstop, school has been crazy and we are selling our house and searching for a new one.   I haven't had time to stop by the blog lately, but I did get a little time tonight to do a little creating.

At Christmas while I was searching for what I wanted I started researching Copic markers.  I don't do a whole lot of stamping and coloring, but there are so many beautiful cards out there using Copics that I decided to give it a try.    I purchased a handful of markers and beginners book with some Christmas money, and they have been sitting on my craft table ever since.  Tonight I decided it was high time I gave them a try.

I first found this adorable little bear image on Bugaboo Digi Stamps.  I just love that little face and sweet little ladybug.  To make it even better it was their Freebie Friday design.  Awesome!!

As I worked on the card design I knew it had to have layering and some kind of diecut.  I started by printing the image twice.  On the first one I colored the bear and carefully cut him out.  I then colored the background, ladybug, and grass on the second printout.  The little hat was cut from patterned paper and colored to match the ladybug.  It was attached on top of the orginal hat design with a little pompom at the top then the bear cutout was attached on top of it all.

With Mother's day coming soon I thought it would be sweet to make this a Mother's day card.  That's where the diecut comes in.  The bear design looks so deep in thought... what could he be thinking of?  How about Mom?

I still have a long way to go with the Copics, but at least I tried them out.  I think he turned out pretty good for a first time.
